The snow is still great, keeping our enthusiastic students and volunteers happy.  And please keep those happy faces on since the Durango Photography Club will be taking photos for a contest and show at the Open Shutter Photography Gallery on Thursday, February 25th.

This reception is the kick-off for the 2010 Dave Spencer Ski Classic.  To learn about the other activities, go to Events and select Dave Spencer Ski Classic.

The Adaptive Sports Association (ASA) is a non-profit organization located at the foot of the beautiful San Juan Mountains in historic Durango, Colorado. Our mission is to provide outdoor, sport and recreational experiences for people with disabilities. These activities are provided regardless of individual financial limitations and create a safe, fun atmosphere for learning and enhancing self-esteem.

During the winter months, ASA offers experiential learning through private, adaptive ski, snowboard and ski bike instruction at Durango Mountain Resort (Purgatory). Through the use of highly specialized adaptive equipment, creative equipment modifications, and customized, progressive teaching techniques, ASA offers programming for individuals with virtually any type of physical or cognitive disability. Twelve years ago the organization broadened it's programming to include a variety of warm weather adaptive outdoor activities and sports. Summer programs now include river rafting, rock-climbing, canoeing, flatwater kayaking, fishing, cycling and camping in a variety of locations throughout the spectacular San Juan Mountains of southwestern Colorado.

The programs at ASA are designed not only for safe, productive recreation but more importantly as tools to facilitate vital changes and personal development within our students. It thrills us to watch our students become more self-confident and independent and go on to achieve their maximum potential in many other areas of their lives as a result of their experiences with ASA programs.
